The funny thing is that the kid I bought it from admitted to taking it to Gamestop to try to sell it first, then said fuck it and left when they offered him only $200 for it.

It cost me $300 plus $4 in gas. And its the good PS3, not the mediocre (old 80GB, 20GB) or shitty (current 80GB, 160GB, 40GB) models.

Well, it took over a year, but my PS3 now has...
Battle Damage! Dropped it this morning. Thank god it landed on the front, so the only thing it did was crack the housing and unseat the hard drive, but it still gave me a scare. I'm currently in the running to pick up a dead PS3 to replace the housing, and I'll have to keep an eye on it for the next week or so to see if anything happens.

I'll put up some pics sometime today or tomorrow.

Yeah. I picked them all up for about $150 (not at the same time) in a rather inefficient effort to fix mine. And now that it is fixed (yay!), I'm going to dump all three.
