Lexar JumpDrive TwistTurn
The JumpDrive TwistTurn has a sleek design with a competitive price. However, the overall performance is what you would expect for an entry-level drive.

Introduction

It can be difficult for those lacking knowledge about technology to choose entry-level technology products. Without knowing about the various aspects and drawbacks of certain technologies, you could easily end up choosing a dud. With that in mind, Lexar has introduced the various versions of the JumpDrive family hoping to build goodwill in the entry-level market. Today, ASE Labs has the 4GB JumpDrive TwistTurn model on the bench in order to see if they have succeeded.

About Lexar

Quote

A wholly owned subsidiary of Micron Technology, Inc., Lexar Media, Inc. boasts one of the most comprehensive offerings of memory product lines in the industry. We deliver high-quality, award-winning products in every memory category: USB flash drives, all popular form factors of memory cards and card readers, DRAM computer memory for PCs and Mac systems, and solid state drives (SSD). We back our products with outstanding customer support and industry-leading warranties, and we strive to expand our offerings to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers-customers just like you.

The Lexar brand has long been synonymous with reliable, high-performance products, which is reflected in the award-winning memory products and USB flash drives sold under the Lexar name.

Packaging

The packaging shows off the product through a window in the front. Particularly notable about the packaging is not the presentation, however, but is instead how the packaging is designed. Whereas most flash drives in the entry-level market are saddled with annoying clamshell blister packs, Lexar instead packages the TwistTurn using two pieces of laminated cardboard glued together over the plastic bubble (more similar to how batteries are usually packaged). Not only is the packaging much easier to open than traditional blister packaging used in similar electronics, there aren't any jagged plastic edges to cut yourself on while you are opening it.

Packaging Front

The rear of the packaging is pretty straightforward. It mentions some basic specifications as well as some general guidelines as far as OS support. It also mentions the 2-year warranty. There is no lanyard or anything included in the packaging, so what you see is pretty much what you get.

It looks nice for sure, but i don`t like how it performs

Well, it is targeted for the traditional consumer instead of the enthusiast. That price fits as well.

Of course, yes. Wonder if there are more models from Lexar with better access times

What would you like to see? We'll get it in for review.

Not necessarily from Lexar. I would like to see what`s the best USB flash drive on the market today(the fastest one with both read and write access times) I would like to see Patriot for example, or Kingston DT Locker+ etc.
Tornado Fri Apr 9, 2010 6:36:44 PM #117698
I actually reviewed a DT Locker+ a few months ago.

I thought it was a pretty good product, and still do.

Lexar has their own equivalent model, but ASE hasn't looked at it.

I have a kingston locker 8gb and i think it`s great. still i`m interested if i can disable the password Smile
Tornado Thu Apr 15, 2010 11:16:02 AM #118133
The DT Lockers use run the password screen off of the BIOS for the drive, so it wouldn't be possible to disable the password unless you were to overwrite the drive firmware somehow.

That`s bad...i thought so. Thanks for the answer. It`s a very good usb drive but the password thing...sometimes i wish i could disable it.It`s a good thing it`s secure...but too secure Smile
